RIP The Old Wharf

Two days ago the best little venue in Birmingham shut its big red and black (or cream and black as it is now!) door for the last time.

It's hard to imagine where Dakesis might be today if not for the support and friendship we found inside this little pub in the back end of Digbeth.

Our live photographer Tony Gaskin, and his wife and daughter who we count as our closest friends now? Met them there.

DJ Beerman and Mrs J of Top Rock Radio who have championed us far and wide, booking us for festivals and being our staunchest supporters? Met them there.

Dakesian visit to the "Home of Metal"

So last weekend was a fun and action packed event.
Kicking off with Oxjam in Kidderminster, despite muchos technical difficulties we managed to pull through the show.

On Sunday, the band, our lovely merch girl Jo and Mother of Steel decided to take a trip into Birmingham City Centre to the Home of Metal Exhibition.
As soon as we entered and saw the 10ft high steel clad sign reading "Home of Metal" we all felt as though we were at home.

We even managed to learn a little about the history of Birmingham, and how people of some eras ago went about their everyday lives in factories. Wayne began to educate us all on the history of Gibson SG's when a blinding light hit both Wayne and Matt from the other room.
On opening their eyes, they saw the shimmer of lacquered wood, the snake-like appearance of some sort of lead, all surrounded by magical looking boxes. OK so they found the room of SGs and a flying V plugged into numerous amps.
Wayne being himself, got into the spirit of things by teaching some of the bystanding children some chords, whilst Matt busied himself with his new hair style and corroding some of the necks with his "simple" exercises.

When we finally coaxed the guys away from the guitars, there was a display showing some of Rob Halford's costumes, and the massive iconic cross from a Sabbath tour, on loan from our favourite music shop PMT. We even came away with a colour-your-own Rob Halford.

Lots of interesting artefacts to see, and lots of information on various Midland's bands, and how they all interlink, once again, it made us proud to be making music in "The Home of Metal."

We finished off the day with stuffing ourselves with MSG hidden deeply in some chinese food, and sorting out the rehearsal room whereby we accidently packed Matt away ....

Now it's back to normality for a couple of days until we are together again, wreaking havoc and causing mischief!
